Statement Bio Press Resume

Tanya Ragir is an award-winning sculptor whose body of work is both compelling and iconic, and is featured in notable museum collections all over the world.

After graduating with a degree in sculpture from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1976, Ragir began her career as an artist with an exhibition of breakthrough work in ceramic at the San Jose Museum of Art.

In the subsequent three decades, Ragir has continued to evolve
in deconstructing the figure - as nude. Zooming in, she references the sacred

relationship between all organic form by juxtaposing details of the feminine landscape within a geometric context. Ragir’s sculptural creations reveal a reverence for grace and her focus is placed on the historically contentious arena of sensuality versus power.

Working with a variety of materials such as bronze, cast resin, stainless steel and aluminum, her scale ranges from inches to monumental.

The Smithsonian Magazine selected Tanya Ragir as their cover story in 1991 for her contribuitions to art history. Museum and private collections include: Total Art Museum in Seoul, Korea; the Rose Museum at Brandeis University; the Cultural Philosophic Center in Stockholm, Sweden; Columbia College of Dance in Chicago, Illinois; and the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation in Los Angeles.
